I know SCMA has a lot of IBAers and LDR's (long distant riders) so for you guys.............do you guys ride with SPOT? I did not. Well, until now. The only reason I ride with SPOT is becasue my wife asked me too and I was pretty much indiferrent to it. But if she wants to make sure I am still moving and not dead "somewhere", SPOT will do that for her and let her know where I am. Or atleast in the last 10 minutes. Ok, it is good for emergency use since it works off the satellites opposed to my cell that may not have a signal in MANY places I go, but how many of you use SPOT and why? BuzzCap7

Yes, I use SPOT. I tried it first during my 2011 USA Four Corners Tour. Family and friends could watch me during my journey. For my wife, it gave her a way to watch my progress and to make certain I was, indeed, moving and not in a ditch. I visited a number of old friends and family along the way. They could watch my progress toward their homes. My cousin who lives on a remote county road in Pennsylvania watched my approach on his front porch with his laptop on his lap. A cold beer was waiting for me as I crunched up his gravel driveway. Very nice.

When you hit the OK/Check-in buttom, it takes up to 20 minutes for the signal to go out? Maybe mine is slow. ? Hopefully tomorrow I will ride with it experimenting. Do u hit the OK button at all? Where do u carry yours? Leaving it on the bike does not help if u have an accident and are separated from the bike and it seems too bulky to wear it on ur belt loop with a jacket or rain gear over it. Ok, maybe raingear is ok. <<I am modifying this message. I just read the SPOT is supposed to be FLAT, HORIZONTAL with the SPOT logo facing the sky unimpeded as much as possible.>> <-- So how do u carry urs? Yours obviously works whatever u r doing. Placing it face up in a trunk or saddlebag would work? I have a FasTrak transponder I use here in the San Diego area, and I place it in my Fairing glove box, and have no issues, so I would think the SPOT Tracker would work.
I have thought about one of these, however my use would be very, very limited accept using it for my 4 Corners Ride, so not sure about putting that kind of money out, plus don't you have to subscribe to the service too? I have heard that you can rent these too? Any feedback on that?
Thanks
Blake, Planning on doing the 4 Corners Tour in May, any recommendations, suggestions, info you could provide me would be greatly appreciated. Email or PM me. Thanks.

Although u can buy a SPOT for $99, I got my in eBay for abt $25. The annual service (although they have differnect options) was like $150 I think. The instructions were clear about the SPOT having DIRECT unobstructed view of the sky. UPWARD facing. So it was clear to me that the trunk where my SunPass (for tolls) is NOT an option. The SunPass works great in the trunk. I am glad u mentioend FasTrack. I will look at it. BuzzCap7
