Ain't that a dramatic title??
I Left Bakersfield around 1 pm after a leisurely breakfast, some road planning, reorganizing the bags' contents, and new load. The ride was a hot one but the warm air flowing over me felt good.
My outfit: I'm wearing the Bohn Body Armor underneat jeans and an old business white shirt (no tie) with the Harley Eagle sewed on the back. I got a bucket styled Harley helmet with a retractible visor, and my old cowboy roper boots from Texas resoled by my local Korean Shoe Repairman with non-skid, deep thread Vibram soles.
My Attitude: Ahhhhh, life is good
My Bike: 2009 Harley Road King Classic, with a special rack designed by me to hold all the gear/equipment I want for the next 4-5 months or so. I named my baby "Sophia" for various reasons. (See Pic)
The first day: I arrived at the Three Rivers entrance area to the Sequoias and remembered that I had a Senior Pass in my back wallet (I carry 2 wallets) so I presented it to the Ranger and got in free. Also got directions to the Buckeye Campsite about 20 minutes from the gate.
When I arrived at the campsite I found an empty spot and nosed into the parking area. The parking spot has a right to left slope to it that would have Sophia leaning heavily on the kick stand....a little too precarious for my taste. TheSo I decided to roll Sophia out of the spot and back her in. Once out of the parking spot I started the engine to move her up the hill and then would be able to easily roll her backwards into the slot. Unfortunately I failed to keep my balance on the sloped and descending narrow road and down we went. Darn!!
Fortunately two strong young men were camped with their families next to me and were able to help me get Sophia upright. (See Pic)
My campsite is simple: a one man tent, REI 3.5 air mattress, desert sleeping bag, camp stool, canned food, knife, hachet, and bug spray!
with camp set up I ate, did some reading, then hit the sack for my first night of camping under the stars that I haven't seen in a long time.
