Fellow Fifteeners...I'm on the trail! Knocked off my first three earlier in the week on a ride down to the Smokys. Hit Va16 first at Tazewell, Va. Good pavement and beautiful scenery interupting the views...but there seemed to be a shovelfull of gravel spread halfway through most of the tight curves. THAT allowed caution to overpower my confidence, so I rode Va16 slower than my usual pace. HOWEVER...I was able to make up for that the next day on US129, The Tail of the Dragon! It was Tuesday morning, very few riders at Deal's Gap...and there was NOT ONE PEBBLE on the Tail, which has a newly paved, PERFECT road surface!! What a pleasure that ride was! Tn360 is one of the prettiest "connector roads" I've ever ridden, and it leads you right to the Cherohala Skyway! The Skyway also had clean, great pavement as I rode those sweeping curves up over the mountain back into North Carolina. Made it to Asheville, got onto the Blue Ridge Parkway, stopped at the Parkway Visitors Center, and rode about 50 miles to Little Switzerland for the night. The next morning, I continued for another 136 miles on the Parkway...to Fancy Gap, Va. Indescribable scenery that day, not to mention a few deer, several groups of turkeys - one crossing the road- and an occasional ground hog threatening to jet out in front of me at just the right second!! AND, almost no one else was on the road...allowing me to proceed at my own pace! One more eastern road, Vt100, then I set out on my epoch journey west to collect the remaining ELEVEN !! GlideRider GO MAN GO!!! You do know that if u hit a wild turkey (the gobble gobble type not the glug glug type) that is an additioanl 10 points. If u cook'm up it is another 3 points. And if u invite me to turkey dinner that is another 3 points. Just want to make sure the record is set straight. ;D Oh, u still owe me coffee & donuts forwhen we met at HD in Ohio recently. Wait <I am thinking>, ok, u gave me an excellent tour (Lincoln Trail and all) so that is worth the coffee and donuts. We are even. BuzzCap7
